Hope is a demon. It sets you up and when you least expect it, it flattens you. According to reports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will stay with Molde for the remainder of his contact - another two years - but has he been offered a job to turn down and if he is, would he?

We haven't heard from the club on this and there is nothing from Solskjaer in English and my Norwegian isn't great, but Google did a job and it doesn't read good. You can read the story here, but again, if he is offered, would he turn it down?

I really don't enjoy getting carried away with speculation, but I guess you could argue that this isn't speculation any more and that there is a serious chance that the new manager of Aston Villa could be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and that it really could be done by the end of the day.

And you have to take your hat off to Lerner, it looks like he is learning and is thinking outside the box. Yes, Lambert, Martinez and Rodgers were easy choices and there is as much to say that they could be as successful as Solskjaer and at the same time fail just as quickly as each other, but there is a huge feeling of optimism right now and you know what, I like it.

At this time of the season the madness usually focuses on players coming or going but for us, silly season is all about a manager. In the last few hours I've seen more names than I usually have beers on a Friday night and they range from Paul Lambert and Roberto Martinez to the likes of Jürgen Klinsmann, André Villas-Boas, Frank Rijkaard, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Rafa Benítez and others.

I've also read something about no Director of Football and Randy Lerner taking full control of this one and not letting Faulkner have a say. One of those is good and the other isn't.

I feel like the guy at the party that is about to tell everyone to go home because it is late but everyone wants to keep going until the sun comes up. Don't hate me, but all that happened yesterday was what was going to happen.

And I also want to use the phrase pissing on the bonfire but it feels like I could be pouring petrol on it - I don't mean to do this, but we have to be aware of the quality of the coffee bean getting placed in the grinder. It's no good having a great coffee maker and nice cups and the best grinder if the coffee bean is bought from Tesco.

The Times believe that Alex McLeish has gone and is anyone surprised? No, not really. He was never going to last and they were always going to wait until the end of the season and that isn't me saying it now, that is sort of an ongoing prediction.

He was never good enough but sadly that isn't the real problem. The real problem is that someone at the club thought he was and when he was appointed, that was why we called it a dark day for Aston Villa.
