This is a rumour on the web and I've just heard it on Talk Sport so it is getting a mention, but can you see Manchester City selling a defender a day before the season starts?
I can't see it myself, but you never know and he is a very decent central defender.
He started his career at Everton before moving to Manchester City in 2000 and at 29 years old he still has a few seasons left in him, but I think I'd like to see Cueller and Davies get a chance and I suspect they will tomorrow.
It is a rumour, so take it as just that for now but if it changes we will update this page.

... They'll get a chance but we desperately need a spare, quality defender. |

... Bring him in - got to be better than Knight for only £1m or so more. |

... Don't rate him myself, but there are not many with his experience looking on the bright side. |

... Until City bully their way into buying Lescott (which has been really distasteful)it looks as if the whole market for defenders is going to be constipated. Once that deal goes through then Everton will be able to spend their new millions on a new defender and so it'll trickle down. Teams are bound to hang on in the meantime in the hope that the Lescott deal falls through and City will pay over the odds for their defender...and so it goes on. |

... I actually think that Dunne would be (given the market O'Neill restricts himself to) a reasonable signing, and if he were £5m, that would be a reasonable fee. It would be interesting to see if he were ahead of either Davies or Cuellar in the pecking order though. Obviously neither Davies or Cuellar are as good as Laursen was, but the criticism levelled at them has been ridicuoous, as proven by the decent performances both turned in when they had the benefit of some cover from the midfield for a change. Personally, I hope that bringing in Dunne would mean that Davies was allowed to have the operation on his shoulder he ought to have had last season, or at least in the summer. O'Neill's habdling of Davies has been even more disgraceful than his handling of Agbonlahor. I don't care if Davies wanted to play. It's O'Neill's job to make the decision that Davies has a serious problem with his shoulder, that blatantly requires surgery, and gets him fixed up. Instead, he chose to accede to Davies' wishes, and Davies' performances have, inevitably suffered. No-one wins in this situation, and I cannot understand how a manager can be so stupid as to take a course of action that is in the best interests of no-one other than opposing strikers. Of course, it may be that O'Neill forced Davies to forgo the surgery, but either way, it's abysmal management. I suspect the truth is that O'Neill was simply hoping that things worked out for the best and that, somehow, Davies' shoulder wouldn't 'pop out', and that he'd be able to perform with no regard for his injury whatsoever. What is unfathomable is that, despite Davies' performances clearly demonstrating the folly of this thinking, O'Neill failed to learn from experience and have Davies booked in for the operation the day after the season ended. |
