I don't know why, but I do have a good feeling about today and despite the poor run of form in the league, I think this is going to be where it all changes. I think this is where it has to change. Note, please, I am not saying it has to change.
When I say this, what I mean is, we are about to enter the business end of the season where points matter and defeats are not just about not getting points, but seeing the teams around you either move further ahead or start to get closer. What we need to is start taking the chances.
Now, I'm going to maybe be a little controversial with my next suggestion; we need to drop Gabby. What I really mean is, we need to see Delfouneso given a run and an opportunity to show that he can put those chances away.
Gabby always has a good start to the season and don't get me wrong, I think he is a fantastic player, but he always usually has an average second half to the season and as Martin O'Neill has said this week and last season, it's not as if we are not creating the chances - so maybe it is time to give somebody else an opportunity to put them away.
Since Gabby last scored for us in the League, a great goal against Manchester United on December 12th, he has had six shots on target in six games. Had one of those gone in, against say West Ham or Arsenal, we would now be fifth.
Yes, it is extremely easy to look back at a few statistics, but Gabby does seem to be almost guaranteed a place and I just think if Delfouneso were to get a little run in the team he might surprise a few of us and if he doesn't, O'Neill still has his Gabby to fall back on and if he does, surely it can only give Gabby a kick up the backside, something I think he might need.
But, that is just my little bit of something to talk about today. Now to the match.
Early Team News
Telegraph
Cynics might suggest that O’Neill was attempting to draw attention away from the weaknesses to his team ahead of their fixture at Fulham today. Stiliyan Petrov, James Milner, and Gabby Agbonlahor did not train yesterday, Stephen Warnock’s shin injury is serious. Nigel Reo-Coker, who has a broken ankle, could have played his last game of the season.
It is impossible to predict who Martin O'Neill will pick, but that is from one of the papers today.
Updates, Banter and Link Dumping
I'm going to enjoy today. The wife is out with the kids, hopefully shopping all day. I mean, it took her 25 minutes to pick a top to wear last night when we were going round to see some friends. Twenty-five minutes to pick a top; hopefully she'll get lost and forget to come home until the football is over.
So, all there is left for me to do is tell you that fastbackace won the t-shirt for predicting 0-0 against Arsenal and that all t-shirts from this week will be getting posted out today. also, that we will be doing updates from Twitter today and that we have asked for your suggestions on how we should refer to John Terry in the future and the best ones are getting re-tweeted. Click here to follow us, if you are not already.
We will also be doing updates here and if we find interesting stories or news we will be listing them but please also, list anything you think is interesting in the comment section - links are fun and we like to click.
For now, coffee and toast today and if you are going to the match today - remember, you can email photos to site@thevillablog.co.uk and they will get published automatically to our mobiles images page here.
Team NEws
Big Bad Brad Friedel, Lule Young, Ricardo Dunne, King Carlos, James Collins, Stewart Downing, Webcam Young, James Milner, Stan Petrov, Gabby Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey.
The bench: Little Brad Guzan, Curtis Davies, Nick Shorey, Habib Beye, Stevie Sidwell, Fabian Delph and Nathan Delfouneso.

... I agree with you Damian. If Gabby is injured (him not training yesterday suggests he might be) give the kid a runout. I don't see this being much different from the home game, as in a pretty low key affair. They have a very good defence, but are in the middle of a terrible run of form. They've won 1, drawn 1 and lost 4 in the last 6 games; http://www.premierleague.com/page/FormGuide Another absolute must win, if we're not going to start falling away, imo. We simply have to start doing the bizz against teams that are struggling. |

He twice got beaten and instead of trying to chase the player to make ammends,(Fabregas on one occasion), he just stood there and ball watched? Anyone else notice that? Are we tired? Do we need to bring in some players to rest others? If the answser is yes then Davies, Delph & Fonzie need to play today instead of Petrov, Collins & Agbonlahor. However they released the jerseys in 3 days. My dad being a die hard villa fan (he grew up in Redditch) said that we were going back to Aussie in 2 days (which was complete BULL****). He had already spent 150 pounds in the shop so they decided to give them to us 3 days before officially releasing the jerseys, on the condition that we couldnt wear them in public. Im not being negative about our team or anything like that, but I really do think we need more foreign players in our team. It's good that MON is developing these English players, like Milner, Young, Warnock etc but we need someone with flair in the midfield or upfront. The difference between us and the so called "Big 4" is that they have player/s that can turn a game. I won't bother pointing out those players, but I believe thats what we are lacking at the moment, otherwise we could be 4th real soon. |

I can remember MON saying/quoting something about how many players he used in the last season compared to other clubs, and i can remember that it was 12-15 less players than clubs like arsenal, chels and Man U. I;m pretty sure everyone knows that MON can be a bit stubborn with his squad selections. If MON wants consistency from the team fine, but he should make minor changes every week or couple of weeks. I believe we have adequate cover for players in the team like Guzan, Coker, Beye, davies etc |

When Warnock is fit, Luke Young will be dropped. If we dont score for another 5 games, the strikers will remain the same. Delph and Delfouneso will not start a game for the remainder of the season. Its funny when people think MoN will change things around or give young players a run - he doesn't do it ever. The same 11 would start every game of the season if he had is way. Anyone remember Gabby the second half of last season crying out for a rest? Did the fonz get even 2 minutes back then? ... Good half of footie. 2 very important goals from Gabby which puts him on 12 goals for the season. What price him getting another 8 before the end of the season? Webcam getting back to his best, Cuellar shows again why he needs to be on the pitch which a couple of crucial tackles and has also got forward well (played a big part in Gabby's second goal). Gotta keep it up in the second half as Fulham will be on the attack, but hopefully that'll open up some space and we'll get a couple more goals. Gabby hattrick + one from Ash is my prediction. |

... Erik....that deficiency doesn't stop Rooney being world class, if Gabby keeps learning and developing it doesnt matter how thick he is. He two goals today...header in six yard box (the fox in the box we've been shouting about) and a classy strikers turn and finish. I think the development of Fonz (who I think MON thinks will be the business) is going to push Gabby to keep developing. Was in hote end on Weds and there were some things he did, balls he kept hold of or won, that he wouldn't of last year. Thats all you can ask, that the players developer and get better and better each year. Imagine what this squad/team can be like over next few years if they keep improving (and we keep adding the quality to it). Ferguson wathcing in stands must be thinking that against he make weight back four could struggle with these crosses...been great pressure first half. Lets keep it going! UTV!! |

... Cuellar coming across and reading the game when we need that extra cover is the reason he is at RB and not playing one of the recognised backs in Shorey and Beye. Good to see Luke Young in there as he also does that covering role well, but is also comfortable on the ball and great getting forward...timely return given the Warnock situation. |

... Fulham's dominated the second half with Zoltan Gera and David Elm both going close but Villa held on. And although the Londoners will consider themselves unfortunate not to have gained a point after a dominant second-half display, Villa will point to a professional first-half display and some ruthless finishing. from the bbc website, looks like motd will be fun |
