Aston Villa get Brighton in FA Cup 4th round to be played at Villa Park

Aston Villa will play Brighton in the next round of the FA Cup and it will be a home tie, which is nice.

Leeds are going to beat Spurs, which is also nice and Chelsea will beat Preston. Other notable matches from the fourth round include Stoke v Arsenal and Everton v Nottingham Forest.

The matches will be played towards the end of January, I do have the date somewhere, but I have forgotten it and I fancy, while it isn't the easiest match we could have hoped for, it is easier than Blackburn.

FA Cup Fourth Round Draw

  • Tottenham v Leeds United
  • Tranmere/Wolves v Crystal Palace
  • Aston Villa v Brighton
  • Preston v Chelsea
  • Portsmouth/Coventry v Sunderland
  • Bolton v Sheffield United/QPR
  • Accrington/Gillingham v Fulham
  • Everton v Nottingham Forest/Birmingham
  • West Brom v Plymouth/Newcastle
  • Scunthorpe United v Manchester City
  • Notts County/Forest Green v Wigan Athletic
  • Stoke City v Arsenal
  • Bristol City/Cardiff City v Leicester City
  • Millwall/Derby v Brentford/Doncaster
  • Reading/Liverpool v Burnley
  • Southampton v Ipswich
Okay, because I was arsed. All matches will be played on January 23rd, which is three days after the Blackburn second leg and should mean that no matches, as of today, are moved.

I think Mr Villa may be out of our reach, but I think that Ruud Van Nistleroy would be a good signing, already a proven goal scorer in the premiership.

Good draw for us and another opportunity to give the youngsters a run out. Agree with mickey86, Clarke and Davies in central defence would be interesting. I'd also like to see MON experiment and play Fonz with Gabby and forget the target man for a game. Anyone heard how Freddie is doing?

Maybe it's just me (and I do hold fond memories of going to Brighton* games in their old park), but don't discount them; they did knock out City last year or the year before.

*a girl I dated when I lived in Birmingham; her family had season tickets to the old park, and quite frankly, had me loving English football more than most Americans that visit the larger venues.

Hey I'm a brighton fan, you shouldn't underestimate us. We sometimes beat the big teams, like man city last year in the cup!! Leeds beat man u, and you also lost against QPR last year in the carling cup. So for all the people you know saying that its an easy tie, well just don't get your hopes up. It is the cup, and we are brighton.

Mickey 86 - Be prepared to be outsung (we sing 90 minutes long) and give us as many tickets as possible, we will sell thousands. If you don't give us enough, we'll be in the home end.

KingVogra - You seem VERY confident that you are already in the 5th round. Remember this t**t people.

I feel with SAF's comments on Owen's chances of getting regular play, it might be worth a sneaky 1M+ bid for Owen (with lowered wages and a Top4 finish bonus attached). Worth considering as a short term option for six months. Gabby and Fonz could learn a few things from him. I think that Marquee signing has to come when we finish top4. Thats the only way the calibre of those sort of players can be enticed to the club (as much as I love Villa - thats gotta be the realistic view). In fact two or three would be good (Mr Lerner is hopefully saving a war chest for such an outcome :-)

I don't think Jones or Keane are good enough....not convinced Owen still has it but given the incentive of a World Cup I wouldn't bet against him coming good with a regular run in the team, and then we would have option of Gabby/Owen, Heskey/Owen, Heskey/Gabby which I think each give us different things. Add Fonz into that mix as backup or cover for cup runs...

I've read a lot of reports that Brighton fans have been buying freely in the Villa Ends. They have Sold out their 6,400 allocation already. Surely they should get 15% for a Cup game. If their is trouble then surely it's us that are to blame? (Not that they will score)
