The fixtures are out and while we won't pay the money to list them all, as it is sort of unnecessary when you have the BBC, we can tell you who the first game of the season is against and the last.
First up is Wigan at home and then we are away to West Ham, so you'd like to think the potential for six points. However, the match most fans will look out for is Birmingham City and I can tell you that we'll be playing them on September 12th away and April24th at home. In theory, we could relegate them.
But, we shouldn't forget, that we also have matches coming up before the league season starts. They're listed below.
- Saturday, 18 July 2009 v Peterborough away
- Tuesday, 21 July 2009 v Colchester away
- Saturday, 25 July 2009 v Malaga, Peace Cup
- Wednesday, 29 July 2009 v
CelticAtlante, Peace Cup
It is also worth noting that some of those dates might change. For the full fixture list click here.

... Pete Hutton For the top 6 teams, away end tickets will go on sale to those who have been to 6 away games within the last 2 seasons. If those people don't sell out the allocation, the tickets will then go on sale to season ticket holders. If they don't sell the allocation out then it goes on sale to those with a booking history. For the lesser teams, it just goes on sale to season ticket holders, then people with a booking history and then general sale. I highly doubt u will be able to get a ticket to the scum away if u haven't got a season ticket. |

I just have the same old feeling of boredom and frustration and more worryingly my anger at it all has dissipated to just a mute meh of ambivalence towards it all, this worries me more than anything that I have a quiet resignation towards another season of mediocrity. I think MON et al are actually just damping down my fire now, I watched the least amount of premiership games last season than ever before as I am getting so disillusioned with it, the thing is I really don't want to be, but I couldnt name you the champions from the last 5 years, I just know that it would be someone out of the top 4 and really not be bothered by which one. ... Well, with all due respect Benny, its kind of diffcult to explain to someone who appears to have no concept of the rivalry and passion that splits any 2 rival teams (particularly Blues and Villa). Fans are 'in it' for their club, not their city so much. You want to be the top dog in your city, and then longterm your country. I'm a bit lost for words! However I do know a couple of other people with your view, but they're not passionate for football and don't grasp the rivalries. Who's your team? |

... Surely, if nothing else, academy players from top production lines could be brought in? Slightly off topic but City, West Ham etc will all have players not able to make a starting side that for a pitance would be available and surely worth a punt for nothing else but squad size alone? We saw what Gosling at Everton did to us in the FA Cup, surely a few 1-2 mil gambles wouldn't go astray? as opposed to nothing. |
Adey Stuttard
said:
|
... RobL, What about using the Academy players from Villa first!! Can't see Everton selling Gosling anyway, but if you want to fill a bench use our own, but then MoN won't use them as we have seen in the past with fringe players Sidwell, NRC, Delf, Gardner, etc. |

... 1874AVFC, i agree with what you say about our own academy, but similarly wonder whether or not we have what it takes there to unearth real quality. I love the look of Bannan but he is very very small, delfouneso obviously has something but again until he goes out on loan we wont know what consistent fotball can unearth in him and apart from that who else can we really hope to produce? Steiber i guess could be considered a potential first teamer, but where is he these days? I honestly think the best option for this transfer window would be to spend 25-30 mil on 5 players. Kyle Naughton, Michael Johnson, David Wheater, Fabian Delph and what ever happened to the Scharner link? would personally love to have him in, would even be reasonably happy with Distin as backup as i think cuellar will only get better the longer he gets first team football. That's a left back, centre half, two midfielders and potentially another centre half. Add to that Michael Owen on a free and that's 4-5 players for an outlay of 30 mil, of which we already have 12, plus potentially 4 mil more from harewood/shorey. Net spend 14 mil. This will provide us with a squad depth of the quality needed in the group stages of the europa league/ early rounds of the cups, and come january we could reassess, with the worst case scenario being 14 mil worth of as yet unfulfilled potential. Surel a case exists? |

... I do worry about our academy players. Generally, if you've not been in and around the 1st team by the time you're 19/20 then you're never gonna make it. Steiber, Albrighton, Bannan, O'Halloran aren't babies any longer, but still seem a million miles away from being announced on the tannoy at 2.55 on a Saturday afternoon. Delfouneso I hope will prove to be special, but from what bits I've seen I can't say I'm too excited, though he did take a couple of goals well in the FA cup and UEFA. |

Wayne Routledge complete nothing Stilian Petrov shit apart from this season Didier Agathe nothing Chris Sutton scored against everton, otherwise shit John Carew A GOOD SIGNING Ashley Young ANOTHER! Shaun Maloney scored some freekicks, never good enough, shit Nigel Reo-Coker never gonna play games so out of 20 signings, only 3 have been good. so to those people who say we need to sign atleast 5 people this summer, you are wrong.
