Ian Ormondroyd and Stephen Warnock and a quick question

Hard times to come people; no Aston Villa until November 21st. I really don't like it when this happens and it isn't the first time this season and it isn't going to be the last either, but we can't do anything about it, so we move on.

Instead, we have some news. Stephen Warnock is called up for the England friendly match against Brazil. He is joined by Ashley Young and James Milner but there is no place for Gabby.

I gotta say that I'm surprised there is no place for Gabby but maybe Capello has seen all he needs to see and he has picked Darren Bent instead this time. Maybe it is a case of Gabby or Bent for the provisional squad for South Africa that will be announced later this year.

It is good news for Warnock who I actually rate quite high, is good at getting forward and has an excellent cross. If given 90minutes, I'm sure he'll demonstrate what he is capable of.

Moving on to Ian Ormondroyd. The Football League website has a new feature; The Big Interview. Quite a fitting title considering his height. Anyway, he might not have spent that much time with us, but if you have a question for him, all you have to do is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it in via email to the Football League website people and it might get asked.

Right, seeing as there is no football for such a long time, unless you count a friendly match against Brazil, we're going to get interactive. Not only can you send your questions in for Ormondroyd, we've also got a quick question for you to answer to the right. This wasn't all my idea, so thanks to Dan for sending in, it is a good idea.

I'm also thinking, seeing as we have so many players at the moment in so many positions, we might do this for a few of them over the next few days, so hopefully, by the time we do have football again, we will have picked our preferred defenders, midfielders, strike force and formation.

Should make it a little interesting over the next few days, but to start with, your preferred right back. Please vote. I'm off for coffee.

Really pleased for Stephen I am sure he is going to have a great Career at Villa, not only is he a very good attacking full back but can also play left midfield.

Now if MON plays Luke young we have a great back 4.

Anyone still moaning about MON's decision to sell Cahill?

A net cost of £2m in swapping Cahill and Knight for Dunne and Collins must be about the best centre half business the premier league has seen. Compare also with the £40m Man City spent on Toure and Lescott...

Sorry - hit add too quickly.

LY is composed, strong going forward and linking up with Milner, and has great positional sense. The only time I recall him getting caught out was when he played on the left.

Most accomplished RB since Delaney. Shame he's not a few years younger.

Gabby v. Bent for England probably comes down to Premiership goals scored - Fabio is impressed by current form only, and for a striker that means goals. We can see Gabby's improved all round game this season, but he's got to up the scoring rate to make South Africa.

Why doesn't Carew take the penalties? My view on our dilemma - Milner and Young both tend to go for placement rather than power. That's fine, so long as you can actually place it properly, which neither of them seem to be able to do. If you tap it and the keeper goes the right way, he's going to save it every time.

Why not just have someone put their foot through it? It gives the keeper far less time to react and he won't be able to ever catch it.

Remember that penalty Carew took against Newcastle a couple of seasons ago? He almost ripped the net off. That's what I'm talking about.

for me it has to be Young at RB as it gives the team proper balance plus he provides a bit more going up the field.
As for the penalties i think Collins should get the nod if he plays as he is as cool a you like on penalties. i think that the only reason we are talking about penalties now is becuase Barry has gone and we all know he would put 9 out of ten penalties away. noone else had to think about taking them

I reckon Capello already had his mind chosen over Bent and Gabby, thinking he's got Defoe and wants another player pretty much the same mould, as he has power and height with Crouch and Rooney.
Warnocks gotta start against Brazil, Bridge of late just seems a constant flat foot!
With Becks not on the Plane too I sense a trio of Villains starting this game.

Gabby or Bent? Not even a contest, Gabby 100% of the time, ask any spuds fan who they would prefer. warnock is better than bridge and should be englands 2nd choice left back.
I also wrote about luke young yesturday, he should start, he was a big part of the bolton win, and what he adds should not, could not, and im sure o'neill will not overlook. For me he should be englands 2nd choice right back, the only one better i can think of is johnson. The real question about our defence is the two men in the middle, cuellar, collins, dunne, even davis when he comes back, he was excellent next to a strong leader (laursen), which we have in dunne now.
It will be nice having two quality defenders on the bench, which ever two o'neill decides not to play. Could we start to see some (shock horror) squad rotation at villa park.

i also said this about milner yesturday, but come the world cup he will be englands first choice right wing.
Englands midfield:
Joe cole, Barry, Gerrard, Milner
Lennon is like our ashley, brilliant at times, non-existant at others. Walcott had one good game, once for england.
I think capello will finally have the balls not to play fat frank or gerrard in the same team, and Joe cole well he is a fabulous player, and he has to start.

I didn't think Ashley Young was overly impressive on Sat either to be honest. His delivery is still poor enough for the amount if times he tries to cross it in.

Gabby deserved to called up before Young going on this season.

I usually concur with your points but I’m struggling with these from yesterday.

Young, along with Milner are our best players by a distance. Gabs need the guile as well as his speed for the step up. He’s improved this season, and is now worth his place, but there are only two first names on the team sheet for me.
And the Young cross for Carew on Sat was terrific. And he won us the Chelsea games with his two crosses. When you whip a ball as he does – with huge top spin and just above the opposition’s heads and with pace – it’s a risky option. I think he’s fantastic at it and if we can feed both these players with more central midfield competence then both he and Milner will readily produce even more quality.

A bit off the beaten track here but i was reading an article today and mon said that between now and the end of the season milner will play centraly in midfield for us and he went on to describe why he thought this.

So for me that told me alot about how mon sees us lining up and playing. now i cant see milner playing in a sraight 442 with petrov but you never no!! so i would suggest we will revert to the 451 / 433 formation .

downing will play left side with warnock overlapping (great balance) and young will play with young down the right ( great balance) leaving milner right , delph left in a central three with petrov pulling the strings ( great balance). the only qusetion mark is how long it takes delph to become established but he is deffinatly in the mon plan, as mon put him straight in infront of reo & sidwell on the opening day.

So i beleive we will play unless which i doubt we play a straight 442 this..

----------------------fridel---------------------

--young-----------collins----dunne---------warnock

----------------------petrov--------------------

--young-----------milner-----delph---------downing

---------------------agbonlahor------------------

Looks a great team, solid but very attacking with great balance and technical ability.

I'd take him back at a cut price to spite Man City. That's about it.

Am I the only one worried about Centre Halfs for England next summer? After looking like our strongest suit recently, this season:

- Rio injured and been rubbish this season
- JT really creaking and lucky to get away with some lucky decisions
- Lescott having a mare
- Upson average at best of times
- Ledley King, looks like time and injuries finally caught up with him
- Woodgate, injured always
- Carrreger retired and having a mare
- Jagielka injured and only had one good season in prem
- Cahill not ready and if called up would be grateful that Norway have not qualified as JC owns his ass
- Davies injured and not proven yet
- Turner makes mistakes and unproven
- Wes Brown bit part player for club and country
- Dawson injured and no thanks
- I'm sure there are some others but they must be young and unproven or they would be in my mind as possibles

Add to this that our likely first choice fullbacks (Glen J and Cashley) are more at home going forward than in defence - could struggle?

So in summary we are screwed, probably. Does this make me an honory member of the Team Depressive?

Warnock and Young it is then

I would have Glen Johnson before Luke Young any day, come on Luke has talent but not nearly as much as Johnson. I guarantee you that Young will be on the bench with King Carlos at right back when everyone is fit.
Warnock has been our best signing in my opinion and its not because of his attacking ability(his not in the same league as A.Cole here)It's just his attitude he gives 100% laced with quality as well as being physically strong. He is a winner.

Tubbydunne, you must not watch Johnson at all, ever. While he does indeed have sublime talent with the ball at his feet, he's terrible at defending, and been one of the more porous parts of a porous Liverpool defense. Luke, on the other hand, can put in a good ball, can link well, and is one of the better wing defenders in the Prem. He's not going to score any 40 yard curling goals, but he's not there to do that, and the things that he does in sum are greater than the one or two things that Johnson does well.

Luke Young - Strong, good at going forward, decent throw-in and aggression. Quality! Without doubt our number 1 RB.
Habib Beye - Likes to go forward but forgets to get back. Always appears to be a last ditch effort and not really composed. 3rd place
Carlos Cueller - I think when he signed he thought he would be a CB but has had to adapt to RB. Good but compared to LY gets 2nd in my opinion
Emile Heskey - If your gonna put the mule in the poll (for entertainment value) then you've gotta mention Milner?!? If the mule is still at the Villa come Feb i'll be suprised. He wants the WC too much and he isn't gonna get that if he stays with us.

Congrats to SW! I would say that he is bordering on my player of the season so far.

I'm sure that after Man City have finished challenging for the title, with Barry at the heart of everything they do, they'll be desperate for someone to take him off their hands. And of course the feeling will be mutual, as Barry will be desperately unhappy at a club who are playing Champion's League football and challenging for the highest honours. No doubt he'd crawl over broken glass in order to return to a club who's idea of a successful season is qualifying for a competition that is less prestigious than the Simod Cup.

While I hate the scum and wish them all the worst that was a disgraceful decision, never a penalty. Almost enough to make me believe taglor that the premier league is all bout money and fixed

Simeon, I thought Man City would make top 4 easy this season but not looking so straightforward now

We will see

2-2 but Liverpool were lucky, never a penalty in a million years

Still a draw still leaves me hoping the scum will get relegated and we will finish above Liverpool.

Right, how many of their side do you want in the January fire sale? Note, they have to go into our staring XI.

I spent a whole night on this on Saturday with my hub cap thievin' brothers.

I said, we'd take Torres, Gerrard and possibly the Argentine if he promised to be a good boy for MON.

In return, in typically deluded scouse fashion, my brothers claimed they'd only take Ash.

No wonder they're in decline, their fans are as confused at the waiter.

Nan I like Benayoun, although not sure how to spell his name.

Agger would have been good before we suddenly had a good defence

Mascherano? Can't spell his name either

Here's an odd one for you.

I was just looking at the table and I suddenly realised that we now consider most fixtures as should wins. Go back 3 years and we were only really confident of beating the bottom clubs.

Yeah, yeah, you'll tell me we don't beat the bottom clubs now, but that is not really point. Just look at the teams from Liverpool down and tell me who you don't EXPECT to beat.

I'd take Reina, still rate him as one of the best in the world.

None of the defenders.

Gerrard, Benayoun, Kuyt (amazing work rate). Wouldn't touch that dago t**t.

Torres

Why take Kuyt, iI think we've got enough 'run around' players?

I really like Kuyt nan. I never used to, but since the Euro's he's won me over as a really hard working, honest and clever player.

He's like a more skillful version of Milner.

Not sure if Kuyt would make our starting line up although he is very much a MON type of player - is he any more skilful than Milner? Maybe I've got my claret and blue specs on

Do you think MON has kept Cuella in the team, out of position because of the Peace Cup? Winning something in his home country. The boys are gonna look at King Carlos and think they can beat the best of Europe. Just a thought...
MON psychology and motivation in action possibly.
Just as valid as the formation/tactics cack that's boring me arse off every time we draw or the 'L' word that shall not be mentioned...???

Reina is far better than Friedel. Sorry, I love Brad, but I'm taking Reina all day long in that one.

Are you on drugs man!!

Hes just very good at holding and shielding the ball, getting into space and good at passing. He does not show any real skill.

On RTE's Premier Soccer Saturday programme in Ireland, Kenny Cunningham was analysing the Man. City V Burnley game and highlighted Gareth Barry being completely exposed for pace and defending...reckon we got good value for money getting rid of him in the summer. My team is at the moment is 4-4-2: Brad F, Lukey, Jimmy Collins, Richie, Stevie, Jimmy Milner, Stan, Nige, Ash, Gabby, Big John. Subs: Brad G, King Carlos, Habib, Sids, Albrighty, Emile, Nathan Del Fonz.
