There isn't a rumour anywhere that we haven't already discussed and it is Friday. Friday is a day for taking it easy, not getting too excited or carried away and if you are of a certain age, having a few beers and taking it easy.
I'm no longer of that age and I have quite a bit of work to get through today and it's not interesting work, but for boring work. It is the type of work that you really should get done on a Monday, just so you don't have to do it all on the best day of the week. But, I'm going wildly off topic now, so, back to Aston Villa and I have put some beers in the fridge, yes.
The thing is, there really isn't anything about Aston Villa that we haven't talked about and you know what, I don't think we're going to hear anything from the club today about any new players. I have a feeling we're basically now going to have to wait until next week.
We might actually here from the other club because we usually find out about it from the other club first and until the club tell us, I'm not getting too excited, otherwise we'd all believe Bentley was about to sign, because he told us he was in talks with Villa. I think it is now very much a case of the deals getting discussed and negotiations are under way.
But we do have the tennis! Andy Murray, if he wins today, will be the first British man to reach the final since Bunny Austin in 1938 and well, it is quite exciting, even for those of us that don't really watch tennis apart from Wimbledon each year. For the record, Bunny wasn't his real name, it was Henry, but he picked up the name at school and it stuck. I quite like that and it reminds me of a P.G. Wodehouse novel.
But, I'm going off topic again. My point is, unless you want to talk about the hospitality packages for next season, how we all know that Sidwell will have a better season or the importance of Martin O'Neill leaving 4-4-2 where it should be left, can I suggest we take it easy today and not get so excited as it isn't going to happen on a Friday from our end without everyone knowing there was a press conference yesterday.
I hope it doesn't happen now but before I go, did you see the results of the poll from the Mail yesterday? If you didn't click here, they make for interesting reading.
Everything is still wildly positive but things are heading in the wrong direction, but that shouldn't be a surprise as all that is happening is we are levelling out after all the hype and PR. But the drop will increase if we don't finish top six next season as this one coming up is the important one and no amount of PR is going to help them if it doesn't happen.
Anyway, there really isn't anything and I've even ended up checking the club site, so while we might now only be one of four clubs not to sign someone, I don't care any more. It is going to happen next week, it is all about quality now and budget provided by Lerner. We'll see how much he really wants it now.

... There are rumours that won't go away and links that keep coming up and aren't getting denied, but basically it's all od hat recycled tosh and it's getting very dull: David Bentley and Kyle Naughton "look like certainties". Philippe Senderos keeps coming back. And apparently, the "top hit list targets" for O'Neill - whether he's gone on holiday or not - are Wesley Sneijder and Joe Cole, according to a dreamer on the Football Rumours site. Fabian Delph, as well as Stewart Downing's loan signing, make repeated appearances too. While all the big 4 and our 'Arry seem to think Ashley Young will sign in return for a mediocre defender, a bag of Prawn Cocktail crisps and £13.65 (cash), at least we aren't being linked with West Brom's Paul Robinson. Yet. |

... It is hilarious and disgraceful all at the same time if Owen should indeed end up at Man Ure. Hilarious because the guy is about four or five years past a peak that was always overestimated anyway, and now would be a poor signing for any Premiership club. Disgraceful because he is patently someone more interested in money (and horse-racing) than football, and so should never be given a big contract ever again. Owen is often held up as a paragon of virtue, and a credit to English football, but this is a complete shower. If you're looking for a footballer with honour, look no further than Fernando Redondo, injured for a year immediately after arriving at AC Milan from Champions' League winners Real. Rather than lie in the treatment table counting his money, he waived his wages until he was fit to play again. Did Owen ever consider doing this at Newcastle, despite the financial difficulties that club is in? Er, no. |

... Christ this is getting a bit dull isn't it?! I guess the most frustrating part of all this is that we have such an opportunity to build on what we accomplished last season and that has to start now, not when we meet Wigan. The calibre of players that we are being linked with is the most depressing part of it all. If, for some god forsaken reason we buy Bramble which i think is very unlikely, I will be distraught. I was at the Villa/Moscow dinner when MON spoke and it was the most uncomfortable 30-40 mins I have ever had at Villa park and that is saying alot! He presented himself as a manager with his own agenda, his ideas and his objectives. I have got a lot of respect for MON but he really has to start bringing new faces to this team. Barry, a great servent and an excellent player, took the mone and ran so fair play but our biggest loss is Laursen. Irreplaceable and a true leader. I think O'Neil is due a word in ther media about his plans, we need assurances that he is looking at players which will take us forward and set us above our biggest rivals in the prem which are, Everton. |

... No-one knows anything at all about whats going on and until the club leak the news out thats exactly how it will be. When Doug Ellis was in charge, there were loads of leaks because so many people didn't enjoy working under his regime and leaked info to undermine all sorts of people within the club. I think the good ship Villa is a pretty happy one and certainly one in which the passengers are happy and it really doesn't appear to have sprung any leaks as yet. Those that have left have not really said anything which suggests they've been paid off well etc. We really do have to wait and see what happens and speculation just serves to stoke up the feelings and hopes we all have for our future and gets everyone agitated. We all want the big signings and the signings of real quality and I think that hopefully, we will get them but in the years that MON has been at Villa, its always been done quietly. So many people on here cant stand the Harry's, Rafa's and all the other big mouthed managers who seem to court the press. MON is the opposite of all those and so many people on this and other websites criticise him for his style. What do you want? Everyone needs to settle down and relax and hold their nerve and wait to see what transpires. |

... Owen passing a 'stringent medical' doesn't suddenly mean that he's regained the three yards of pace he's lost. Neither does it mean that he won't be breaking down with injury (groin-strains, pulled or torn hamstrings, not to mention that ruptured cruciate). I'm not overly familiar with the ins and outs of Man Ure, and maybe there's some bizarre logic to signing Owen, but personally, I'd put it down as another one of that reprehensible old man's mistakes in the transfer market - and in and amongst the inpsired signings, there have been a fair amount of terrible ones. |

... I mean no offence - but this is what irks me sometimes. People come on here saying Owen has no place at Villa, and then he goes and gets snapped up by United. Alex Ferguson is not stupid, the man knows how to win silverware and the players required to get Man United there. Anyone who really believes, or at least says, that Owen would have been a dud signing for Villa, is leaving in a dreamworld. If he's good enough for Sir, he's certainly good enough for us. I'm really quite gutted we're going to miss out on a quality, quality player. |

... At the end of the day I don't think it matters about Owen. If he goes to Man U he will almost certainly up his game. I don't think the man would have been motivated in the same way at villa. So yes, expect him to score some goals there and be an inspiration to their team initially at least. Don't ever feel he would have done the same at Villa park. He would have been a poor signing for us, like Heskey was. Better some younger blood who aren't quite so jaded. |

... I've never seen such a gifted player (owen) appear so unmotivated about his career. Too much baggage. We've had our fair share of these types of players. Barring Paul McGrath, the success stories have been limited to a great first half a season - then either off to obscurity or someone else with more clout. No lasting contribution to the club. I'd much rather sign someone who views Villa as a step up and is excited about pulling on the shirt. |

... Could this be Villa's 1st signing? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1197269/EXCLUSIVE-Villa-green-light-Bayern-sign-5m-Borowski.html?ITO=1490 Aston Villa have been given the green light to pursue their interest in Germany midfielder Tim Borowski but face competition from his former club Werder Bremen. Tim Borowski Villa manager Martin O'Neill is believed to be considering a £5m move for Bayern Munich's powerful 29-year old, and Allianz Arena insiders insist that would be more than enough to prise him away. New Bayern coach Louis Van Gaal is keen to stamp his mark on the Bundesliga side, after officially taking over earlier this week, and is prepared to sacrifice Borowski to add to his transfer budget. He may not be short of takers after it emerged that Werder Bremen have also registered an interest in the versatile 6ft 4in German international, who has been used in an attacking midfield role by his country but can also fill the anchor position or even operate on the flanks. Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf is coming under growing pressure after a 10th place finish last season - their worst for over a decade - and has made it clear to Borowski that he can be a pivotal figure in revitalising their fortunes. There is bound to be an emotional pull for Borowski after he graduated from the club's Academy and spent eight years in their first team before joining Bayern on a Bosman free last summer and scoring five times in 35 appearances in his first season at the Allianz . But Villa need midfield reinforcements as well, after reluctantly selling Gareth Barry to Manchester City, and are unlikely to succeed in trying to lure Tom Huddlestone away from Tottenham. Sportsmail understands Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has assured the England under-21 midfielder he has a future at White Hart Lane and would only consider selling him if a substantial offer came in from one of the Barclays Premier League's top four clubs. And Martin has jetted out of the country for a couple of days. Coincidence? |

... damian, i have been reading the blogs on this site for a few months but never thought to comment. i am anxious about the new season and think its time to get a few points across! IMO markus berg and steven defour would be good moves for the club, i have read a lot of rave reports about defour and watched the 3 good goals that are on youtube, i am not completely convinced of his ability but from what i believe he is a risk worth taking. i used to look forward to going down VP every other week to go and watch players like Benito Carbone and to take this club to the next level we need that foreign flair player aspiring to acheive the same goals that our beloved club so deeply desire. berg seems to be that poacher with an eye for goal and a good header, he is young and hungry and will obviously look to be in the spotlight for the World Cup next year, also the Swedes seem to love the Villa thanks to our good old Olof! i don't agree with the moaners that slate MON every day, okay he is a bit slow in the transfer market, but at the end of the day the bloke has got ambtion he will bring in the right players. in conclusion i believe the following are realisic targets and could move this club forward; Borowski, Defour, Berg, Campbell (Old and past his peak but stable sub), Bentley and finally Naughton. i would be more than happy with those and a couple experienced squad players that can do a job when called upon, musn't forget guys we have some brilliant prospects in the youth system! |

He does not seem like a mon signing to me. certainly not one to build a team around due to his age. However, perhaps the press have heard that mon is just trying to sign someone from bayern and they have put 2 and 2 together and got 5. What if mon is reigniting his interest in shcweinstieger? we were in for him last year i think but it never happened. Now hear me out on this. He is young, plays for bayern where there must be some kind of link at the moment. we tried for him last year and he players on the right. Ye is young and talented. He fits the bill mon style. Now aren't bayern trying to sign bosingwa at the moment who bombs down the right? could it be that we are trying to get schweinsteiger and they want bosingwa to replace him? ... As I have told you guys before that I am very good friends with a member of the Villa legal team, he actually has resigned from his post yesterday to work in a big firm in Sheffield. Right to the point of this post: my mate has confirmed with me that mon has only been allocated £12m to spend plus Barry's £12m equally £24m. He also says that the yank Lerner is not interested in villa sucess and feels that a bid of £150m for the club and he will sell up and make a handsome profit. He also is not seeing eye to eye with mon, as I hav said before Lerner is livid with mons transfer dealings from last summer especially the one regarding luke young! Lerner himself said that villa could have got him for £2m the year before but we paid £6m last year! He also said that alot of the back room staff at villa are not happy with mon and also the reserve team coach absolutely hates mon! My mate has been with the legal team since Lerner took over! What he said is that Lerner knows that mon has taken the club as far as he can and is just waiting for some1 to buy him out! Lerner is also very angry with villa fans for the way he is being portrayed on bloggs, especially on the vital villa forum! Due to this and many other reasons he wants out! What you will see this season is that mon or Lerner won't back each other up, the person who is dealing with the transfers is not mon but a guy called the general Fitzgerald. All I can say guys is that I am villa through and through, and I am just as upset as other villa fans who are being cheated so far! I am not lying and I know I am not wrong, as I have actually seen players contracts in my hand from my mate at the villa. And by the way some of the contracts I have seen are a joke, for instance one player wanted the club to pay for 9 first class fair tickets to anywhere in the world every season! That player is angel! |

... What is the problem at villa with transfers? Alex ferguson tells owen he wants him at man utd on Thursday in person over breakfast and by Friday dinner time he's signed up and passed a medical!!! But with villa we seem to have these long drawn out signings like sidwell... This season it's bentley, we all know he's gonna sign but yet the club take soooooooooooo long to get it done! It's as if all our transfer window time is wasted by drawn out transfers rather than just getting the job done and moving on to the next player! What's the big hold up? Am I missing something??? |

Woodinho i agree with pretty much all your saying, but when a club like Man Utd want you, you don't think twice, you don't need to sell the club to a player, they'll pretty much agree to join you straight away, but when we try and sign someone its a much harder proposition, were not a fasionable club.. |

... True Villan... duh... MON is on a one year rolling contract so if RL wanted him to go, would be easily arranged. Your little post has made me feel quite optimistic. Let me think of the worst possible contract clause I can find... oh, a few first class fares for a player from South America. Big deal... it's a bit like saying you must pay me for 53 weeks a year instead of 52. Hardly Armaggeddon. Mind you that rumour you started about Bramble yesterday got me going. you did start that one, didn't you? |

... Badger; true, though I really do think Taglor is not one of them. He is a genuine Villa supporter, albeit one with more than a few chips on his acromion (he works in a hospital so could ask one of the nurses what that is, is it's not too obvious). The Bramble thing started with a few jokes on here I think, and just like Topsy it grewed and grewed. One of two things is likely to happen: one; MoN signs some big names to maintain our forward motion, or two; MoN will be restricted to signing a few players to hold the ship steady(ish) until significant funds become available next year. I hope to heaven that it's the former, 'cos I live in Gooner and Spud Land among wall-to-wall Redknobalikes. |

... As I have told you guys all before my mother is a dinner lady at the Villa canteen. She actually left this week to go to a bigger school in Sheffield. Before she left she got to see some insider knowledge of what goes on in the Villa canteen. Apparently Friedel throws a wobbly if they dont have spotted dick and has it in his clause to be served it within 10 minutes of a match finishing if not he turns into hellboy, I have seen this spotted dick and it is true. MON is signing only players named heskey that can run a lot and not score. There is a ghost that stalks the corridors named salifou, it cannot be confirmed as he is only a rumour, has anyone really seen him? Lerner is so unhappy with peoples opinions of him on blogs even though he is a billionare and lives in another country that he is going to change the strip from claret and blue to ginger. This is all true as overheard by my mum in the canteen. ps mellberg only left cause his beard was a bonys and he was told he couldnt keep it |

... I reckon Owen would have wanted to come here if Man U didn't come knocking but we'd have all jumped at that chance. It's a shame the opportunity is gone but no criticism of MON, really. I think it could be good for England though... I'll think he'll show that if you put quality around him, he can still perform. He will get more time on the pitch and more chances to score at OT. I can't see us going into the season with more than 3 top line strikers, plus the Fonz so I suspect if Berg comes it will be at expense of Carew... perhaps losing Carew is the lesser of two evils if the alternative is losing Ash, if it also means we get Bentley plus one plus cash. |

... I hate to admit i have not renewed my cup or away scheme this year. The away because if you miss 3 games you get no more tickes with all the bloody midweek games wht chance do you have The Cup Scheme simply because MoN will again treat theat them as nonsence. I wonder though now we cannot challenge the top 6 if they will come important again (Even if we try the players bottle big games) |
