So let me ask you the question: which are the signatures you most want MON to pull off over the next few days and weeks?
Borowski? Hangeland? Berg? Cole? Miguel?
I'm afraid I hold a slightly different view. The blogs and the newspapers have repeatedly suggested that both Ashley Young and John Carew might be on their way to other clubs during the close season.
This cannot be allowed to happen. With Barry and Laursen gone, Young and Carew are Aston Villa.
By far the most important signings for Villa are extended contracts for Carew and Young, and you can add your voice by clicking on the button on the right.
Whoever we sign, we keep John Carew and we keep Ashley Young. No compromise.
Click the button on the right to make sure your voice is heard by Lerner and O'Neill: Carew and Young; stay at The Villa!

We need to keep both Young and Carew and the rest of the squad and improve with some really good signings, I would like to see Berg,Hangeland and a couple of good midfielders, there seems to be plenty of them out there, as a minimum. In addition I would like to see some up and coming players drafted in ( like Delph ) for the future. |

... I think we need to keep young, but carew is replaceable... We need to buy the following to have an improved season from last.. Hangeland or Upson Naughton or Shawcroft Delph Downing or Bentley Vagner Love or Tuncay But as we all know MON keeps his targets to himself until they sign, ie young and shorey on the same day....also villa faithful, dont worry just yet that we havent signed anyone, MON always build the squad up in the later part of the transfer window, as this usually gets players at good prices. Villa to be a better and bigger team in AUG...TRUST ME - Good things ahead. |

Most important for me is a creative midfielder, I'd most like that to be Joe Cole but I don't think we have a chance. I'd also like Hangeland, Delph, Naughton and Jenas. Also agree with the Dunne comment above - Dunne is wank. He's basically just a pretty Martin Keown.I agree to the extent he is wank, but I question the fact that he is pretty either? |

... The most important signings are in the positions we have lost players. I think whenever Laursen was out of the team, we were close to useless last season, and the first year MON came when he wasn't in the side we we're just as bad. So no. 1 target: Haangerland I would says Barry leaving could be a blessing if we sign a creative midfielder - which Barry wasn't. We got good money but it must be spent - with a little on top in my opinion (£15mil): No.2 target: player like Defour (Not Defour because he's not good enough!) If Ashley young gets injured we will be terrible going forward - we just seem to lump it now so we need some cover + competition: No 3 target: Drenthe - rated very highley but not much chance at Madrid anymore, he plays left or right wing or defensive mid or attacking mid. We could also do with signing someone who is value for money - someone who can play a couple of positions but maybe is out of favour where they are playing now, and we can get for less than they are worth: No. 4 target: Bentley - Worth more than what he'll cost + he's young and english and most importantly can cross a ball. We could do with strengthening in the full back positions - someone who can play left or right and is going to develope into a replacement for L young or Bouma: No. 5 target: Naughton - will develope into the perfect relacement for one of our full backs. My bonus signing would have been sturidge - young and very talented. He is a Villa fan and his family said he was interested in a move to Villa (his high wage demands at City were due to frustration at being on the bench, and would have been lower at Villa) Unfortunatly we may not have tried to sign him as he's gone to Chelsea - where he will no doubt sit on the bench. |

The only way these 2 will leave is if MON & Learner decide to cash in which wouldn't at all surprise me. So forget them leaving because they are under contract.... Then we should concentrate on the replacements for Lausen & Barry + the other 6 or 7 players we need to have a squad big enough. The names we are linked with do not excite me so i'm hoping MON comes up with better quality but we all know he wont. I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't even give it a thought until today now he's back behind his desk. |

... I also think Carew is replaceable, that doesn't mean I want him to leave though. On his day he is superb but he is the same player that sometimes looks uninterested, drops too deep or pulls wide and then instead of bursting a lung to get in the box, has a slow stroll in the general direction of goal. Too many people only remember the good games he has, he has just as many lacklustre games - don't be blinded by the way he claps the crowd or like him because he has a good song. He is our biggest goal threat, it would be nice if he got in the box more to make a nuisance of himself and worked harder for the team. |

... Obviously keeping Carew and Young is essential. Of the players we've been linked with..... (1) Tuncay - Fantastic player. I'll be suprised if we don't have to fight Liverpool for him. He could play either flank or just off Carew. (2) Bentley or Downing, preferably Bentley because he will be cheaper and he is top quality. Anyone remember his hat trick against Manure a few years back? He's not just a great crosser. (3) Defour is class. He was brilliant in the European games I saw him in and would be a great signing. I haven't seen much of Veloso so I can't comment on that. (4) Naughton and Delph - 2 of the hottest prospects in the country and would be great signings. (5)In defence: Hangeland would be great but he won't be cheap and with Fulham in Europe too and Arsenal interested I don't reckon we'll get him. Campbell would be a good short term signing, doing what Ronny Johnson did for us a few years back. I think Carlos and Curtis would both benefit from playing alongside him. Distin had a dicey season but would also be a good shout if the price is right. Wheater has all the attributes to be a great player but needs to play alongside someone experienced. It looks like Marcus Berg will be going to Hamburg. I like the idea of us playing a midfield 5 with Tuncay or Defour playing the creative forward role that Gerrard does for Liverpool. We could then have Reo coker and Petrov sitting and young/Bentley/Milner/Tuncay/Gabby in wide forward roles as all have a good work ethic. If we get some of the players we've been linked with we will have a very strong team next season. My only fear is that MON will insist on playing heskey and Gabby up front together in a 4 4 2 and we won't see the potential of our players realised. |

... I spend a lot of time every day reading this blog and everyday, like many other villa fans I hope for some signings. Now I don't really live near Villa park, I live in Peterborough so I don't get to see as many games as a lot of the regular bloggers on here, but I absolutely love Villa and have for past 20years. I know us fans are getting annoyed at watching MON faff around trying to get players in, and we're 3 players down on last season, but I do trust him to get it right over the next few weeks and fully expect us to be back up to the right numbers come the start of the season. Last season (particularly the begining half) saw us play some of the best football we'd played in a long while, and providing we don't get rid of gabby, young and carew, and also add some quality editions then I'm kinda hoping we'll consolodate our position and possibly push on. Hell at one point last year I was that optimistic I thought we might even be in with a chance of winning the league. Sorry to rant, but what I'm trying to say is that we need to remain slightly more patient. Signings have got to come soon, they have to as if they don't then all confidence in the management and Lerner will go and the big players we do still have left are going to leave. |

So our priority signings should be 2 Quality backs at least , Hangeland would be a perfect signing but also try an get naughton and distin or cambell . Fot mids we need one in to at least cover Barry , Defour and Bentley would do fine and delph if leeds dont want 25 mil for him . We are doing ok for strikers maybe sell harewood for couple of younger english forwards . ... Yokel, Yes I take your point about delph. Tbh I've only seen him on very few occasions. One of the games was against Milwall, but whatever, he didn't look anything special in a Div 2 side. But he does look composed, almost laid back even. I suppose that's a good sign. I don't know, I'd have to see more of him to form a better opinion. I don't know if I'd go to 6mill, especially if money is tight, but then contrary to many posters, I think MON's signings have been pretty good for us. Not brilliant, but mostly the right one's at the time. Put it this way, if MON gets him, I'll trust his judgement. As for Le Tiss/Cantona, I'd also give the arrogant french bastard the edge too. Bloody good player. |

... Villa4Life: For me it has to be..... Hangaland, Veloso, Bentley, Jenas, Barowski, Defour, and some bloody good striker like Huntlaar... and kids for future Naughton and delf You think we need 4 central midfielders? I don't think so. As far as they go, we need just one of Veloso, Jenas, Barowski, or Defour. |

... Well, there you go. If any of the info from the preceding posts is anywhere near true, you can see why MON is such a "loser" in the transfer market. Bunch of f*cking highwaymen out with pistols with these figures. MON's right to say no, and I back him 100%. And if that means only stupid Man City Oil Money can buy a title, so be it. It's still stupid money, and when titles are simply for sale, then they mean sweet FA. I'd rather cheer on Ash's overtime winner at Everton and take whatever comes after that than a team full of hideously overpriced mercenaries that would never have graced my home ground unless they were paid absolutely stupid money and can't wait to scarper off somewhere else for even more the very second they're not happy with the dressing room sandwiches. I wouldn't pay my hard-earned money to watch a bunch of prima donnas who would piss on me and mine if they weren't being made millionaires to endure the stink of us. |

... Come on £7 million for Delph and another similar quote for Naughton! Both promising youngsters by most accounts but no more than this at the momment. £6 million + for an injured Downing. Wouldn't pay this even if he was fit. Would any of these improve our first eleven? If we can't attract top quality to improve us or get the promising youngsters at a more realistic price, then I'd rather save our money. |

... all our problems are again caused by MON reluctance to buy from abroad, unless that player is already playing in england. we are being quoted crazy prices and im not even sure any of them would start the season! delph would be a squald player, as would naughton, and so far it looks like thay would cost 14mil! downing is out until xmas, and thats another 12mil gone! that could be 26mil and not a single player on the pitch come kick off!! we need to unearth talent, hangeland is a great example, he cost fulham 2.5mil! now we have to pay 9mil! i have said this before, of all MON signings who would sell for more than we paid? young and pos carew, thats it! even milner would not sell for more than 12mil at present! MON plays it to safe i the transfers, he does not trust our scouting staff, thats obvious! whats happened to defour? jurado is a great little player, and at 7mil would be a far safer player than the same figure for a division one player never tested at championship level, let alone premiership! scandanavian defenders fit well into premeirship, so why no buys fro those countries? 3 clubs have so far not signed, and you just know one would be us! same every year, he really does need help, because this is poor and not the actions of a top club, i have even heard rumour that agents cannot even get hold of MON at times come on villa, sort it out! |

Truevillian is not a rumour agents cant get in touch with o snail its a FACT An agent said so on sky sports news last year He said martins phone was either always unreachable or off That is why i have said countless time's he needs to accept help and stop being so stubborn...We get rid of a tight manager in doug and get in a tight manager in o snail why o why does it have to be us all the time Cant we just have a chairman and manager at the same time who like to bring in players regardless of there nationalty and regardless of the cost just buy for christ sake thats what the rest do |

... Just thinking last night (poss prompted by that idiot Everton fan who invaded our site) which is the stronger of the two clubs at present and who is the more likely to break into the top 4. Choosing a team from Everton and Villa players I would include: Pienaar, Howard, Cahill, Arteta, Lescott, Jagielka and possibly Baines at LB. Fellini or Petrov as the fourth midfielder. This would unfortunaely leave only Ash, Luke Young and JC as the Villa representatives. Add Rodwell to the above list and it looks Everton are in pole position. |

... Has anyone thought that us, sunderland and Tottenham were amongst the highest spending teams last summer, which is why we may be struggling financially now? Although i am a big believer in Oneils abilities i am starting to question his ability in the transfer Market! If we would of moved a bit quicker we could of signed Owen, Pennant and Lucas Neil on free transfers. That's cover for the right side, and an experience striker! Then focused our funds on a quality CB and CM. Forget Delph and Naughton if they want 7mil for players of that Calibre. Lets bring some of our own youngsters through. |

... Look in todays market £6m for an English u21 midfielder is about right. That is what you have to expect if your transfer policy is to purchase English players. Surely MON has seen this by now. Same goes for Naughton. If you want to buy English then expect to pay a higher price. That is we can either stop these stupid bids and pay what they want or we can start to look abroad for their international counterparts who will cost half the amount. |

Same goes for Naughton. If you want to buy English then expect to pay a higher price. I think MON, having paid £12m for Milner, and whatever £8-10m for Ash, is well aware of the price tags on English players. MON may be tight-lipped, deliberate, slow, all these things. Perhaps over-cautious even. But he's not stupid. He can read the papers, same as us, see all the crap rumors and reported price tags. And he obviously must talk to agents, otherwise, he'd never have signed anyone. |
