Was a good game but Guzan looked rocky ! he underestimated his opponents on a number of occasions and nearly got caught out.
Ashley Young doesn't look himself either, his crossing was poor. Our young blood looked good, they were definately up for it. We didn't take hold of the game until Mr Milner stepped onto the pitch; then the ship was steadied. Downing looked a cool customer..
Good turnout 39k + They even brought their mascot (solitary seagull fliying over their end)
Bring on Palace ! - Nocky

Considering there are 56 (I think) places between us in the league ladder and you're challenging for a place in Europe, I think we made you look quite ordinary on Saturday. Yes, we rode our luck a bit, especially when you hit the woodwork, and Young looked class, but we had three or four golden chances ourselves and, I think, deserved another goal. Made for an exciting final few minutes at any rate. Bennett caused you all kinds of problems down the right and we passed it about nicely.

Was impressed by the 39,000 attendance, but at a tenner, it would have been a shocker if only a handful had turned up. We took 6,400 and would have had 500 + in the home end, had tickets not been cancelled by your lot. But it was a good day out all in all, nice bit of pre-match banter on the way up from Witton station.

Good luck in the fifth round - if you get Palace, please stuff them! - eastlondonseagull

Frem.

Firstly MON has already said he is not interested in Keane. I cant be bothered to yet again find the link, but he has said it.

Secondly, Lerner said this season would entail "more modest" investment.

Thirdly, MON has said he must sell to buy, Gardner only brought in 3.5mil, that is not 10.

Fourthly, Spurs are offering Keane to soften the blow of loosing Cole. This is the reason the Jan window is pants as clubs have little time to secure replacements. Would you rather swap Ashley, Milner or Gabby for Keane? Thought not.

Fifthly, you imply Boukari is crap because he has scored three goals since 2006, he is in fact a midfielder.

Sixthly, you want the Russian from Spurs who has scored 6 goals in 33 games at a strike rate of one goal every 5.5 games. Heskey's current rate is one every 3.5 and actually works for he team. - doubledown9

Forgot to mention.....

Milner was immense as usual and A.Young took his goal excellently and looked a real threat all afternoon. - Chris Harper
Also Delph's goal looked quality. Very happy for him. So his performance was good?
Delph is an outsatnding player ak, he'll be our star player one day, mark my words.

Delfouneso is also a future star. He has so much technical ability. He could litterally be world class one day. His run near the end was just brilliant. Would of been a cracker!

Terrible 1st half but a lot better 2nd. Guzan isn't anywhere near as good as friedel yet. He annoys the hell outta me when he gets the ball, takes a decade for him to kick it.

The future looks bright for the Villa! - Chris Harper

Matt-t Keane gets goals as well unlike Hesk. People saying Keane is not good enough are mad. I would swap Carew for Keane any day. Carew does not look intrested any more. Keane will get goals. - frem

Spurs have offerd Keane to hammers for cole. They dont want him so lets put a 10 mil bid in. Hes a top striker and we will not get any better then him. Im sorry to say this but if not Keane Oneill might go for Beattie.
Pav looked good for spurs last night. Hes Oneills type of player, Tall, physical and hes a good goal scorer.

we have been linked with Razak Boukari today. On wik it says hes a striker but on youtube he looks like hes plays as a winger. well i hope he is a winger because hes scored 3 goals from 2006. MON type of striker. Shit. - frem

I was sat in the Doug Ellis stand with a Brighton fan (one of the few who wasn't ejected when they scored their first) and Delph just seemed like he was commanding the field. I never realised that he's so tall and languid. A bit like Carlton Palmer only with skill. He took his goal brilliantly, and how the hell their keeper saved his other shot on goal only he will know.

Glad the Fonz got a goal. He's definitely got a better touch than Gabby.

The other thing I noticed yesterday is that Habib Beye moves around the pitch like a Jurrasic Park raptor. If only he had the same aggression.

I'd also like to say fair play to the Brighton fans. They were singing throughout. - Andy Young

such a shame for albrighton he provided great width for the first goal if he had stayed fit i think we would have won by a larger margin . did anyone have brighton fans sat next to them i had 4 sat next to me ! they did not even disguise the fact they were either ! - Steve Oldaker

Robbie Keane has always looked good against average opposition, but as soon as he comes up against some top defenders he looks very average. 3-4 years ago I would have loved to see him at villa, but now he is getting a little bit old, and the money would be to much for a player who wont offer that much.
Also over the past few years he couldn't get a start for liverpool who only have one forward of note in their whole squad, and he cant get a start for spurs, who have crouch and defoe in front of him. I think we need to look above keane's level, its time to look abroad, and bring in some real flair and skill to our front line, we have plenty of hard work, pace and power, we are just missing a little bit of quality. - robb david
What's the deal with people wanting Keane? He's never really done it at a top level
Yes he has. He was quality. A fact many don't realise is that every new club he went to he took 6 to 8 months to settle in before he started showing his true quality. Liverpool didn't wait that long which was a mistake.

I am a bit iffy if he is the right man for us though. - Adrian Kilgallon
Should be sidwell out the door - not Gardner?
Thats for sure. At least Gardner has that shot on him. What exacly does Sidwell do?

Just seen the goals but Albrighton did great for that goal. Delfouneso showed again he knows where the goal is and where to run to get goals which is something you can't teaach. Really excited about him now.

Also Delph's goal looked quality. Very happy for him. So his performance was good? Because the way he took that goal showed he has real ability. - Adrian Kilgallon

I have no idea about anything that happened yesterday. I was moving house and i have a real axe to grind. Why the fuck was their 3 radio stations with blues - everton on. two with albion on, two with wolves on, one with leicester on, and then the usual rubbish from talk sport and five live. Why cant these radio stations talk to each other and broadcast different games.
Anyway to the match i have no idea how we played yesturday, but we got three points, rested some players, that really needed a rest. So all in all, good result, and we have to credit the manager for resting players, but still getting the right result. Five live were talking up villa last night, the crowd was ment to be excellent, and fair play to brighton taking that many to the game. Sounds like the two teams made a proper cup tie out of what could of been a pretty boring afternoon, praise all round to everyone involved, except the radio stations who pissed me off royaley. - robb david

Re:- Keane

If...and i think its a big if, we actually sign him. Then surely its purely short term?

That means in 12 to 18 monthes time, we will be looking for a replacement?

Now, i think Keane is a good player, but its creativity i like, not his Goal scoring. But, the thing is.... should we be looking at short term, when its the long term that matters?

I want to see a side assembled thats going to last 3-4 seasons. A team that grows together, and grows with the succsess we achieve.

Short term fixes belong with the Ellis era, and the randy and Martin era is supposed to be about getting us long term success?

So, i think we need somebody younger. and hungrier.
What's the deal with people wanting Keane? He's never really done it at a top level
Really?

You might want to take a look here;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbie_Keane

Even this season he's been scoring, a fair chunk of those appearances off the bench too.

He's averaged a goal every two and a half games, near enough.

Or 19 in every 50 games, which is roughly a decent season for a decent club.
he ain't good enough and he ain't coming.
He is good enough but the yids are not gonna let a player of keane's quality come to a team batling for the top four with them. It would be akin to us selling Carew to them! could you see that happening? We should of bought Keane ten years ago when we had the chance, not now. - kieran
