Benteked off, the Jerell Sellars and let's not forget Callum Robinson

We all knew Benteke was going and while the vast majority of the talk was around Liverpool, I've got to tell you that I was still a little surprised it was Liverpool, only because they're not exactly a top four side and even through I think Benteke is great, he's no Suarez and he's not going to get them into the top four.

But then I read something yesterday about Benteke earning £140,000 a week and it all made sense. His agent has now doubled his money. But Benteke has locked himself into Liverpool now and it's going to be hard to leave when a proper top four club come calling. But it's his call.

But we have to move on and focus on what's good for Aston Villa now. Hopefully more chances are going to be created next season and that hopefully means more goals for whoever we have up top.

And fortunately the talk around Adebayor seems to have gone. Maybe it took Tim some convincing or maybe Tim was never interested, but the focus now seems to be on Charlie Austin and I wrote something about this the other day, but of all the names mentioned there is something about his that interests. But, we'll never know if Tim has changed his mind but I will say this, whoever comes in (and we might already have the player), it would just be nice that after we've picked up £32.5mn from the scousers that whoever we get scores more than Benteke next season.

Give youth a chance

And when I say we might already have the player, who really knows? We've got Gabby and Kozak and last season Callum Robinson was on the verge of making a breakthrough. And what's to say that Jerell Sellars doesn't get his chance, we've all heard the stories about the manager giving chances to younger players and Sellars has scored three times in two matches this week and is only a year younger than Robinson.

I'm not saying this is going to happen. It will take balls of steel for the manager to put his faith in those four. I'm just saying, at 19 years old you've either got it or you haven't. Sure, it can come later, but sometimes you've got to give the lad a chance and it does look as if he's getting that at the moment. Let's just hope he can keep his head about him.

Contrast

And seeing as I've opened the can of worms, let me just write the following and none of this matters for 90 minutes, it's just my impression form Robinson on his social media channels is he cares about his appearances, his hair and it's about looking good. There is nothing wrong with that; look at Beckham, you could say the same for him, although he was also quite special.

But if you look at Jerell Sellars on his Twitter page, he looks like a wannabe thug but also has that air of confidence in that picture he has up of him in the Villa shirt. I think you need that to be a Premier League football breaking through, because you're going to get knocked down and kicked and you have to get up and believe in what you're doing.

Like I said, neither really matter for 90 minutes and yes, I'm getting way carried away, but why can't we give him a few more games and see what happens. Yes, you don't need to tell me that it's madness, but when someone pays £32.5mn for Benteke and Benteke leaves for Liverpool, there is something wrong with the game.
