League Cup at Coventry City

I don’t remember the last time we played Coventry City as it was or feels like a very long time ago, but we have this page and I was able to look at all past League results. Have we played them in a cup game since then?

I do think I’m right in writing that tonight will be the first time we’ve played at this stadium though. And like all matches at this level, it’s not going to be a walk in the park, but it is an important game in a competition we want to be doing well in.

And this level is as good as the League, when you meet a team in the same division as you. And a victory in 90 minutes for either side is going to be good for confidence.

And confidence is important at this level, but I also know it’s going to come good for us and that confidence isn’t why. It’s when the players get to their level and when the manager has them playing the way he wants them to.

Last season was a tough start and it appears that this season is going the same way, but how we ended last season was as good as it gets and that is what we need front and centre.

And how boring would it be if we just won every week?

This competition also represents a real opportunity for us and while it might feel like the manager doesn’t treat this competition as highly as he treats others, I think it just feels that way. I suspect tonight we’ll see a very strong side put out, with maybe one or two changes.

But the changes coming in are going to be strong too, if that happens and we have to hope that the players coming in, if that happens, take the opportunity presented to them.

And while this is an important match for us, we do have other fish to fry. This is the League Cup for us, but we are Aston Villa and for Coventry City tonight, this is their FA Cup final this season.

Keep the faith people, it’s coming good.
