Looks like Rogers is off but Manzambi is confirmed and more are coming

It looks like Morgan Rogers is about to leave Aston Villa in a deal reportedly worth £117mn. with Chelsea.

He’s leaving a manager and Club on the rise to join a side that have looked lost since Roman Abramovich was forced to sell and I’m guessing it’s pretty much for the money. And the hope of success, with a manager that has had one good season.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand. He’s a young adult that has grown up in the system and now he’s going to earn double digit millions a season living in the capital.

With everything and his six year deal, he’s probably banking £50mn. when you factor in endorsements and everything else.

Who can blame him? I mean, the game is rigged in such a way that the bigger Clubs, that let’s be honest, cheated to get to where they are, can afford to do this and you could even position it that by design, have to do this.

And the above sounds like I’m bitter again, like when Tielemans left to join Manchester United, but I’m not really. Don’t get me wrong I think Rogers is a very good player but I don’t think he’s great and I’m not convinced he’s worth that much money.

If he went for £60mn. I’d be very happy. To get almost double that, it’s just good business for us and I’m convinced the manager and his team will go and get as good and one day, we’ll get as good and they’ll turn out to be more than just very good.

In other news, I should write to confirm that Aston Villa have signed Johan Manzambi. At 20 years old, he’s still a prospect, but if he does what he’s told under this manager and lives up to his potential, we have a very good player on our hands.

And there is speculation of more coming in. João Palhinha and João Gomes are two. No doubt there are more in the pipeline.

Anyway, it turns out it wasn’t Arsenal that wanted Rogers and we will find out if they are really interested very soon but if they’re not, maybe we ask Chelsea to throw Cole Palmer in the deal to get it done quickly?
