Players back at Bodymoor, players still at the World Cup and is it coming home?

The players are back at Bodymoor and England play Norway in the World Cup tonight. If England win, there is the semi-final on Wednesday against Argentina or Switzerland. The World Cup final takes place just a couple of days before our first pre-season fixture.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m now a little interested in the World Cup and obviously want England to go all the way, but this will impact our season. Sure, it’s going to impact a lot of sides so it will even out, but I’d prefer it impacted every other side and not us.

This coming season is a big one and you could paint a picture that it’s one of the most important for a long time. If we can do well in Europe and finish in the top four again, it will act as a catalyst or maybe a stepping stone to take the next step.

And yes, we still have six weeks until the Premier League season properly kicks, but we have quite a big match with Arsenal the week before that and it would be nice to start the season with silverware.

Add to that I think we are going to see quite a bit of activity in the transfer market between the World Cup finishing and the start of the new season. I think our starting eleven next season, when all players are properly back, could look two or three players different. And I don’t think that is a bad thing.

But nothing’s happening and I blame the World Cup for that. And I feel like I could write more about the World Cup, but I think rather we need to write about FIFA. Is it just me or are they one of the most bent organisations in the world?

It feels like this World Cup has been going on for too long already and it should be shorter. There shouldn’t be breaks half way through the half pretending to be for the players and VAR needs to go. Keep goal line technology but we really need to scrap VAR because it’s not for the game.

Anyway, this is just a refresh of the blog as I thought we needed a post. It’s early and just started raining where I am, but when done I’m going to go hit some balls, get an early dinner and head to the pub for the match later.

And yes, I’m optimistic. I think it’s coming home.
