Speculation: Milan Jovanovic can pick between us, Everton, Spurs and Manchester United

You have to enjoy some of the speculation that starts around this time each year. It isn't so much the players, it is how they pass off the speculation to try and make it credible.

Today is one of those special days that made me chuckle. Scanning the BBC Gossip page I found a beauty, where I wouldn't normally expect to find it and it put a smile on my face.

In fact, it has put more than a smile on my face and all this on what is turning out to be quite a dreary Tuesday. In fact, when I woke this morning I wasn't looking forward to today, but this has just made the day worth while.

Birmingham's £4m bid for Standard Liege's Serbian striker Milan Jovanovic has collapsed, leaving Manchester United, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton to battle it out for his signature.

Above is what made me chuckle; to think that because a move by Birmingham City collapsing has allowed in other clubs. To try and suggest that Birmingham City are doing anything other than eating scraps from the table of all the other clubs mentioned can only mean that the person who summarised this for the BBC must in fact be a Birmingham City fan.

But, that isn't the full story. It turns out that the reason why, according to Mirror Football, the deal collapsed is because the agent that Birmingham City instructed to get the deal done, a certain Barry McIntosh, has reported Birmingham City to FIFA and has a legal case pending.

So, instead of the player, who is out of contract in the summer, heading to Birmingham City, scouts will be watching him against Arsenal tonight and we are one of those clubs that will be taking an interest and apparently willing to pay £4mn for him in January.

That is it for today but don't forget to get to Villa Park early on Saturday for the unveiling of the William McGregor statue.
