Aston Villa 3-0 West Ham: Out with the retro, in with the modern

There was a moment in the second half when the supporters at Villa Park were cheering every pass and it went on and on and on. When was the last time you remember that happening?

Today was different. Today was special. Players like Marc Albrighton, my man of the match, Ciaran Clark, Barry Bannan and Andreas Weimann all featured and it just felt different. There was a giant breath of fresh air in the way the team played today and in how they looked.

The goals came from Stewart Downing, Stilian Petrov and James Milner and you know what, they were all good goals. You could say there was an element of luck, but we had the lions share of the game today and we deserved the win and we did look good for it.

Players seemed to play with a little more confidence and there seemed to be a desire to score goals - not just not concede. Luke Young pushed forward, Petrov pushed forward, Clark pushed forward.

Webcam looked hungry and Milner gave, as you would expect, 100% for the time he was on the pitch. When he was subbed, he got a standing ovation and he applauded every stand. I'd like him to stay, but Ireland is a quality player and while Milner played well today - others around him were better.

Match analysis tomorrow, please vote for your man of the match and what more can I say; it was very good. No more retro football at Villa Park.
