Season starts next week, Evann Guessand signs and we're ready

So, it’s that time of the year. The season is about to start and we have a glimmer of hope. Something really could happen this season for us. Or it might not. Sure, we’re not going to win the League, but silverware is possible.

We’ve not made many changes and you all know I don’t like change. But we have strengthened. And we do look strong.

And I like the Buendia is back. I like that Malen is looking like he’s going to be involved more. And I believe if there is someone that the manager wants, the Club will do what they can to help him get the player.

I also think we probably wont see that many more changes in this window now, but I suspect in January, we could see some interesting things happen again. I think we’ve approached this summer the right way.

And I like that we've brought in Evann Guessand, not that I know anything about him. But he scored a few last season and created a few chances and he's of the age where if it's going to happen, it's going to happen quite soon. And you never know, it could be now.

Looking back to look forward

Our problems last season were quite simple and football isn’t complicated and it’s so easy to write now after the fact, but we didn’t score enough and we conceded too many. And it’s not really that simple. Because we won only one less than Chelsea and Newcastle, but they both scored more than us and conceded less.

We also drew too many games and that was because we were conceding too many and not scoring enough. Of all the teams that had a positive goal difference last season, we were join last, along with Brighton. Every other side with a positive goal difference had better than us.

Liverpool scored 28 more goal than us and conceded only 10 less. And with fewer changes to the squad this season and more data on the players we have, it should be easier to fix. It really should be.

And I know this is very easy to write, but we’ll see what happens next weekend against Newcastle, then Brentford and then Crystal Palace in August.

I don’t know what’s going to happen this season, but I’m hoping. And I like that I'm starting a season this way again.
